A husband and wife team are representing clients in two of the most high-profile cases in the country.
Karen Friedman Agnifilo, the attorney defending Luigi Mangione, is married to Marc Agnifilo, who is representing Sean “P. Diddy” Combs in his criminal prosecution.
Karen, a former Manhattan prosecutor turned defense attorney, has been retained to represent Mangione, who is suspected of murdering UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson.
Mangione, 26, was apprehended following a countrywide manhunt and is currently being held in a Pennsylvania jail after refusing extradition to New York, according to the Daily Beast.
Agnifilo worked as the chief assistant defense counsel from 2014 until 2021. According to the Daily Beast, her legal knowledge and experience in high-profile cases will benefit her defense approach.
Marc Agnifilo, Angifilo’s husband, is handling Diddy’s criminal case. Diddy has been accused of sexually assaulting 120 men and women.
Mangione’s family, an affluent, well-off unit in Maryland, is “devastated” by his arrest in connection with Thompson’s murder, according to an official statement.
Mangione was apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and found in possession of a ghost pistol and a manifesto about the shooting.
Mangione has been portrayed as a vigilante against the healthcare sector, sparking a slew of memes online, with the Washington Post referring to the phenomena as “the meme-ification of an accused killer.”
Retailers are gaining from Mangione’s influence. The anti-insurance industry book linked to Thompson’s death sold out after quickly rising to the top of Amazon’s Best Seller list. Online retailers such as Etsy, TikTok Shop, and eBay noticed an increase in goods sales commemorating Thompson’s assassination.
