A Mexican actress has died after voluntarily partaking in a spiritual cleansing ritual in which she allegedly swallowed lethal Amazonian frog venom.
According to local sources, Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez, 33, ingested the poison as part of a spiritual cleaning ceremony similar to toxic cleansing done by South American Indians.
Rodríguez began vomiting and had severe diarrhoea.
Witnesses stated she initially rejected treatment while ill, but eventually gave up when a friend visited and her health worsened.
Mapache Films, a Mexican production business, confirmed the death and described her as a “beloved colleague and friend.”
“We deeply regret the death of our beloved colleague and friend, Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez,” the production business said in a social media statement.
