A sugar heir attacked his girlfriend in a restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida, because they were sitting next to a gay couple.

Alexander Nicholas Fanjul, 39, also known as Nico, beat his girlfriend at home on January 28 after she asked him to stop being angry about their restaurant visit, according to the Palm Beach Police Department.

Newly released bodycam footage obtained by Law & Crime shows officers arriving to the scene and detaining Fanjul.

In the footage, an officer describes how he arrived at a scene of “disarray,” hearing the couple shouting inside the house and noticing the ruckus through a crack in the door.

When the officer entered the house, he says he discovered Fanjul standing over his girlfriend and “drops and trails of blood” leading from where the woman claimed she was carried.

“She had her handbag with her. He kicked her, threw her to the ground, and yanked it from her shoulder. She does not know where her purse or phone are. The officer responds, “She’s pretty beat up.”

Chairs had been flipped upside down, rugs were out of place, and numerous other items had been pushed over or tossed onto the floor, according to the officer’s arrest records.

According to court documents obtained by Law and Crime, the woman informed police that Fanjul choked her around the neck until she fought to breathe.

The woman exhibited bruises and redness around her neck, which matched her statement.

Fanjul was arrested and charged with seven counts of false imprisonment, petit theft, felony battery, interfering with a witness, victim, or informant, battery, criminal mischief, and cocaine possession, according to Palm Beach County court records.

On November 4, he pleaded guilty to petit theft, criminal mischief, and felony violence, but the judge denied adjudication of the final offence. He was sentenced to four years of probation.

Fanjul is the eldest son of Alexander Fanjul Sr., a director and senior vice president at Florida Crystals.

According to The Palm Beach Post, the corporation situated in West Palm Beach is one of the top sugar producers in the Southeast US. The 39-year-old doesn’t work for the corporation.

The Independent has contacted the Palm Beach Police Department and Florida Crystals for comment.
