A traffic stop can be initiated for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s a routine occurrence, while other times it’s the result of a traffic violation. Of course, persons driving at high speeds are one of the most prevalent reasons for being pulled over, as they cause numerous fatal car accidents each year. This occurred lately in North Carolina.
The person tried to evade a traffic stop after speeding
As previously stated, speeding results in significantly more fatal car accidents than it should. According to WRAL News, police officers in North Carolina observed a vehicle travelling at over 100 mph at 1:30 a.m. on December 6th. Of course, they attempted a traffic stop on the speeding vehicle. Unfortunately, the vehicle refused to stop, putting authorities on a risky chase at such a late hour.
As the police attempted to stop the traffic, the motorist upped their speed. During the chase, they reached speeds of 120 mph on the highway before exiting. Eventually, the officers caught up. They then performed a pit manoeuvre, successfully stopping the driver.
Naturally, the driver was caught and detained during the traffic check. The individual has been charged with felony fleeing to evade arrest and other driving charges. Because of the high speed, it’s logical to believe they’ll be charged with reckless driving. Fortunately, no one was wounded during the chase, albeit a police car was damaged.
