New Tennessee laws go into force at the start of the new year.

As 2024 comes to a close and 2025 begins, the Volunteer State may usher in a slew of new legislation.

Several new and consequential state legislation will go into effect on January 1.

One of these laws is called the “Protecting Children from Social Media Act.” The bill will force social media companies to check users’ ages and allow for parental approval.

In addition to protecting kids, the “Protect Tennessee Minors Act” will compel websites with sexual content to verify, in some way, that a viewer is 18 or older.

Another new rule will require additional bartender training to assist prevent sexual assault in alcohol-related contexts.

Beginning January 1, all Tennessee alcohol servers must get training on the role drugs and alcohol play in sexual assault. This training needs to be completed every two years.

Other new legislation that will be passed include expanded access to birth contraception for TennCare clients and more landlord-tenant transparency.
