NC 16-year-old dies, passenger injured in Johnston County crash following chase with NCSHP

A 16-year-old driver was murdered and a juvenile passenger injured in a crash following a chase with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

According to NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), on Friday night, a trooper attempted to stop a white Chrysler 300 for speeding on I-40 East in Johnston County.

The 16-year-old refused to stop and continued driving east on I-40 at a fast speed, according to NCSHP.

The trooper followed the sedan as it took the exit onto US-301 North, but lost sight of it when it turned into Baker Street in Four Oaks.

Another trooper eventually discovered the vehicle on Hockaday Road. It had crossed the middle line and struck a tree.

The motorist died on the spot and did not use a seatbelt. According to the NCSHP, a juvenile passenger received treatment for minor injuries.
