Maryland therapist drowns her 3-month-old kid in bathtub after waking up with a plan to 'end everything,' police say.

According to court documents, a Maryland mother has been charged with first-degree murder after drowning her three-month-old baby in a bathtub at home.

Mackenzie R Colgan, 37, called 911 on Sunday from her Chevy Chase, Maryland, home to report drowning her infant daughter in the bathtub, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

First responders hurried to the residence to save the girl, but they arrived too late. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Law & Crime read a probable cause document that detailed the alleged events of Sunday.

Around 11:40 a.m., Colgan allegedly withdrew the unnamed child from other family members, telling them she was going to bathe her upstairs.

Twenty minutes later, Colgan reportedly returned to the first floor and informed the girl’s father that the youngster had died in the bathtub. The father instructed Colgan to phone 911 before running upstairs to attempt CPR on the youngster.

After the first responder arrived at the house, authorities took Colgan in for an interview. During their conversation, Colgan, a certified clinical counselor, allegedly informed officers that she awoke in the morning with the intention of “ending everything.”

She allegedly planned to kill both her children and her husband.

“She then said that she turned the baby’s face away from her and held the victim’s head under water until she knew the victim was dead,” cops wrote, according to Law and Crime.

She stated she was planning to jump out of her home’s window, but changed her mind as she approached the ledge. That’s when she revealed to her husband what she had done to their child.

Colgan has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held at Montgomery County Jail. A mental health evaluation has been scheduled prior to her first court appearance.

Speaking with NBC 4, Montgomery County District Attorney Lauren DeMarco described the situation as “extremely sad.”

Colgan’s attorney acknowledged to NBC 4 that the therapist had no previous convictions.
