Man charged in a fatal Robeson County gunfight

ROBESON COUNTY, NC :- A man is in custody in connection with a fatal Christmas Eve shooting in the Shannon area.

Deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Nettie Drive shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

At the scene, they discovered Curtis Locklear, 55, of Shannon, who had been shot. Locklear died at the hospital after being transported there by EMS.

Deputies detained Timothy Griffin, 32, of Fayetteville on Tuesday night. The sheriff’s office initially charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, causing serious damage, and discharging a handgun inside an enclosure to provoke; however, charges were escalated to second-degree murder after Locklear’s death.

Griffin was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center. He remains there without a bond.
