The News & Observer offers a weekly compilation of restaurant cleanliness scores to keep you informed about the health ratings at Triangle restaurants.

Sanitation scores and letter grades are used in North Carolina to evaluate restaurants’ compliance with rules and standards designed to reduce and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

You’ve most likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants, and The N&O has already described what those grades mean and how they’re determined.

Here are the Triangle counties’ sanitation scores for the week of December 17-23.

Wake County’s sanitation scores

The Wake County inspection management system shows that 83 restaurant inspections were done from December 17 to December 23.

  • Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
  • One restaurant received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.

Naga’s South Indian Cuisine (1000 Lower Shiloh Way, Morrisville) achieved an 88% rating during an inspection on December 20.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 13 standards.
  • Violations included: Raw chicken stored above multiple ready-to-eat foods on storage racks. Floors, walls, prep coolers, exhaust hood, sides of make-line units, and shelving throughout the kitchen soiled with food and debris.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
  • The restaurant previously scored 94% in October.

Durham County sanitation scores

The Durham County inspection management system shows that 29 restaurant inspections were done between December 17 and December 23.

  • All restaurants received an A grade.

Orange County sanitation scores

The Orange County inspection management system shows that 21 restaurant inspections were done from December 17 to December 23.

  • All restaurants received an A grade.

Johnston County sanitation scores

The Johnston County inspection management system reveals that 21 restaurant inspections were done from December 17 to December 23.

  • Most restaurants received an A grade.
  • One received a B grade.

La Quinta Inn & Suites (1695 Outlet Center Dr. in Selma) achieved an 81.5% rating during an inspection on December 23.

  • The restaurant was in violation of nine standards.
  • Violations included: A glass reach-in cooler holding cheese, cream cheese, butter and milk being 13-15 degrees warmer than necessary temperature. An employee’s personal items, like clothing, a bag, a phone, and a half-smoked cigarette found sitting on a food prep counter.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
  • The restaurant previously scored 87.5% in June and 85.5% in May 2023.

Chatham County sanitation scores

The Chatham County inspections management system shows that ten restaurant inspections were done between December 17 and December 23.

  • Most restaurants received an A grade.
  • One restaurant received a B grade.

Allen & Son Bar-B-Que (5650 US-15 in Pittsboro) achieved an 87.5% rating during an inspection on December 19.

  • The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards.
  • Violations included: Live roaches. Pink and black slime mold on an ice deflector, a non-food-contact surface.
  • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
  • The restaurant previously scored 95% in August and 98% in January.
