The deputy mayor of Los Angeles was placed on leave after an inquiry revealed that he made a bomb threat against City Hall earlier this year.
FOX 11 in Los Angeles reported that the FBI raided LA Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ Pasadena, California house on Tuesday as part of an investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall in September. The FBI made no arrests during the search.
On Wednesday, LA Mayor Karen Bass’s office issued a statement on Williams’ absence.
“The Mayor’s Office was notified that the FBI searched Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ home yesterday as part of an investigation into a bomb threat he allegedly made against City Hall earlier this year,” LA Deputy Mayor of Communications Zach Seidl said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “He was immediately put on administrative leave.” The Mayor takes this problem extremely seriously.”
Seidl further stated that when the threat was reported, the Los Angeles Police Department investigated and determined there was no immediate danger to the building.
Following further inquiry, the LAPD sent the case to the FBI.
Police stated in a statement that an investigation concluded Williams was most likely the “source of the threat.”
The LAPD stated that the case was sent to the FBI because of the department’s professional connection with Mr. Williams. “The FBI remains the investigating agency.”
There was no more information revealed regarding the current investigation.
According to the station, Williams started working in Bass’ office in March 2023 and was entrusted with coordinating with the police, fire, and other key safety departments.
Before joining the Mayor’s office, he was the executive director of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission for seven years.
