Officials reported that one person was killed after a tree fell on a car in Iredell County on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Landis Highway/North Carolina 152 at Brumley Road, near the Rowan County boundary. The North Iredell Rescue Squad verified that one person was found dead inside a car when a tree fell on it.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated Landis Highway will be closed for an extended amount of time during the investigation. The victim has not been named at this time.
Multiple tornado warnings were issued for the Charlotte area as a line of powerful storms moved over the region Sunday morning.
At one point, a tornado warning was issued for Iredell and Rowan counties, with storms moving directly over the scene of the fatal occurrence.
