Heavy traffic on Interstate 95 in NC following Christmas

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. :- Drivers reported that traffic on I-95 the day after Christmas was busier than expected.

Many folks who traveled for Christmas are already returning home.

“Traffic has been kind of heavy because of the construction and stuff going on,” said David Theroith, a trucker heading east toward Morehead City. “But it is manageable. “Traffic hasn’t stopped completely.”

Venkat Talasila of Virginia began his journey home with his family from Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, on Christmas night.

“Christmas night is the best way to travel because there won’t be traffic,” he told me.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has halted most roadwork on interstates across the state in preparation for holiday travel. Drivers found it easier to navigate I-95 with a portion of the eight-lane extension completed.

AAA anticipates Friday to be another busy travel day. Experts advise drivers to get on the road before midday to prevent traffic.
