Goodbye to the SSI check for the first week of December – Social Security makes it official

For seniors across the country, getting their Social Security benefits is one of the most important events in their calendars.

But while all of the benefits that the Social Security Administration (SSA) gives out are important and necessary for the people who receive them, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) may be the one that people are most looking forward to.

People who get SSI are some of the weakest people in society. This benefit works with others that the SSA gives out, so it’s likely that they are already getting other kinds of public assistance.

The first question is who can get SSI benefits. There are three main groups of beneficiaries, both children and adults:

  1. Those with little or no income, and
  2. Those with little or no resources, and
  3. A disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older.

Conditions to get SSI benefits

Conditions must be very strict to make sure that only people who really need the benefit are getting it. This is because the benefit is only given to people who are in dire financial need. People who want to get SSI can’t make more than $1,971 a month from work because that’s the first thing that stops them.

When two adults apply for SSI together on behalf of a disabled child, the maximum amount of money they can make from work is raised to $4,841 per month (including both partners’ income before taxes and deductions), but they can’t make more than $2,398 per month from non-work sources like unemployment or pensions.

The second requirement is that assets or resources, vehicles, money in bank accounts, and other things that can be turned into cash that aren’t personal belongings must not be worth more than $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples. Parents applying on behalf of their children may have different limits.

Another thing that counts is your age. This benefit is meant to help people who don’t have many options, and being young is an advantage. For people younger than 64, they must have a disability that keeps them from working for a year or more, will kill them, or makes it very hard for them to do normal things every day (for kids with disabilities).

And if you have these things, you will also need to show that you made less than $1,550 a month at work in the month you are applying.

If all of these things happen, beneficiaries will be able to get a monthly payment of up to $943 for an individual and $1,415 for a couple in 2024. Next year, the payments will go up to $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple.

This is the maximum amount that can be taken away. It depends on a person’s income, the income of their spouse, where they live, and whether they get extra help from the state where they live.

The Social Security calendar

To make sure that these payments are as useful as possible, they are sent to all eligible recipients on the first of every month. However, because the first of every month can be a weekend or National Holiday, SSI recipients are used to having their benefits changed.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) only sends benefits on days when banks are open and the US Postal Service delivers mail. If the date falls on one of these days, benefits are sent early to make sure they get to their destination on time.

This is what happens in December, since the first of the month is on a Sunday. As a result, benefits were given out on November 29, which was this year’s Black Friday. The same thing will happen with January benefits. Since January 1 is a holiday, the January SSI payment will be sent out on December 31, New Year’s Eve.
