Body camera footage from the Cincinnati suburb of Liberty Township, which shows frantic moments as first responders worked to save an infant girl who had been shot in the head.
They quickly apprehended the shooter, her own grandmother, Mia Desiree Harris.
Surprisingly, the girl survived, even though the injury had long-term consequences for her health. Harris recently pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault.
She is currently serving a sentence of nine to twelve years in prison and will be eligible for parole in December 2032.
“During the incident, Harris shot at several family members before intentionally shooting the child,” the Butler County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release.
Witnesses alerted authorities to the badly injured baby and Harris’ identity as the shooter.
“My name is Mia Harris. Mia Harris,” a woman told law enforcement in footage from December 9, 2023. “Get her right now.”

According to a criminal complaint filed in Butler County Area 2 Court, Harris “knowingly” caused “serious physical harm” to another victim, whose name has been redacted, by “striking [that person] in the face with a fist.”
“Harris then broke down a locked bedroom door, after firing a handgun through the bedroom door multiple times,” according to the record.
Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones did not mince words when he previously discussed the case with WXIX.
“This was not an accident. It was on purpose. Shooting a 6-month-old baby is one of the most disgusting and heinous crimes I’ve ever witnessed.
Jones told the station, “What makes it even worse is that this is the baby’s grandmother.” “She shot this child and shows no remorse whatsoever.
I feel sorry for the baby, the family, and everyone who is going through this. Everyone, including the doctors, members of the life squad, and deputies. “This is as bad as it gets.”
