Fayetteville police are investigating an evening shooting that left one man dead

Fayetteville police are investigating a gunshot that occurred Monday evening and killed one man, according to a news release from the department.

Police responded to the gunshot shortly before 10 p.m. Monday at a residence in the 4600 block of Gardenwood Court, between Glensford Drive and Skibo Road, according to officials.

Malakai Woods, 20, of Fayetteville, was found with a gunshot wound and confirmed dead by doctors, according to a news release.

“This was not a random incident,” authorities stated. “The decedent and suspect were known to each other prior to the shooting and no threat to the public exists.”

The culprit has yet to be identified, and detectives from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are continuing to investigate the case.
