Double Social Security payments in 2025: the calendar is now official and it’s good news for retirees

With the new year coming up, it’s important for people who get Social Security benefits to know exactly when they will get those benefits. The Social Security Administration (SSA) runs five programs.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) handles payments for retirement, family, survivors, disability, and supplemental security income (SSI) all year long. Because these payments are so important to recipients, the SSA publishes a calendar ahead of time that shows when each benefit is due, so recipients never miss a payment.

Social Security payments in 2025

Every month, SSI payments are made on the first, unless that day falls on a weekend or national holiday. In that case, payments are moved to the day before, when banks are open and can deliver the money. This is the reason why there are months with no payments and months with two. It doesn’t mean you have to pay anything extra. The following is the plan for SSI:

  • December 31, 2024: January 2025 payment.
  • January 31, 2025: February 2025 payment.
  • February 28, 2025: March 2025 payment.
  • April 1, 2025: April 2025 payment.
  • May 1, 2025: May 2025 payment.
  • May 30, 2025: June 2025 payment.
  • July 1, 2025: July 2025 payment.
  • August 1, 2025: August 2025 payment.
  • August 30, 2025: September 2025 payment.
  • October 1, 2025: October 2025 payment.
  • October 31, 2025: November 2025 payment.
  • December 1, 2025: December 2025 payment.
  • December 31, 2025: January 2026 payment.

Payments for retirement, family, survivors, and disability all go out on the same days. When they go out depends on two factors. One asks if they began getting benefits before or after May 1997, and the other asks for their birth date.

When it comes to people who started before, their payment is due on the third of every month, with two exceptions for weekends: Friday, May 2, and Friday, August 1.

If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month, you’ll get your benefits on the second Wednesday of that month.

If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, you’ll get your money on the third Wednesday, and if your birthday is between the 21st and 31st, you’ll get your money on the fourth Wednesday. If a payment is due on a National Holiday, it will be moved to the next business day that banks are open.
