Without a doubt, Donald Trump has made a number of perplexing judgements in his life, but suggesting that a whole country become the 51st state in the United States may be proof that his brain has turned to mush.
Following Trump’s re-election as the future Cheeto-in-chief of the United States, tariffs have become a major issue in political debates and dinner table talks around the country. As people throughout the country gathered to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, many were left wondering how devastating grocery prices and other necessities might become if Trump’s tariff ideas were implemented.
As you might expect, Trump’s crazy taxes will not only affect the U.S. over the next four years, but also a few other countries, like Canada. That’s where Justin Trudeau’s fear is starting to set in.
Last Friday, the prime minister paid an impromptu visit to Mar-a-Lago — perhaps, he was able to skip that horrible Thanksgiving dinner — to meet with President-elect Trump to address threats to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian products. During their conversation, Trudeau stated that a tariff levy “would kill the Canadian economy,” prompting Trump to wonder how Canada could live without “ripping off the U.S.” for $100 billion.
As if Trump’s snide retort wasn’t enough, the president-elect then flatly offered that Canada become the 51st state of the United States, with Trudeau serving as governor after all is said and done. Folks, we are literally living in Hell.
Not surprisingly, Trump’s words were met with nervous laughs and head scratches. Many people thought he might have been joking, but you can bet that he was dead serious. To make matters worse, Trump reportedly suggested splitting Canada into two states, one conservative and one liberal, which elicited more uncomfortable laughing.
Yes, this is it, America. This is who we’ve chosen as our future president, as if his first four years in office, from 2016 to 2020, went so well. Now, Trump is so full of himself and on such a high tariff that he is recommending that Canada simply put up or shut up and join the United States if Trudeau, in Trump’s view, cannot restore the Canadian economy before his first day in office in January 2025.
Despite these ludicrous comments and recommendations, Trump asserted that the conversation between the two was “very productive.” Trudeau, on the other hand, has remained relatively quiet since their rendezvous, however one Reddit post has exploded with comments since the couple met for dinner.
One can only predict what the future holds for the ever-present allyship between the United States and Canada, but one thing is certain: Trump is entirely focused on maintaining his position at the forefront and in complete control of everything. Marjorie Taylor Greene will have a lot to tweet about, though.
