President-elect Donald Trump claims he had a telling conversation with Prince William about King Charles and Kate Middleton following a difficult year in which both were diagnosed with cancer.
On December 8, Trump, 78, discussed his meeting with the Prince of Wales, 42, the day before, recounting their conversation at the United Kingdom Ambassador’s Residence in Paris.
On December 7, Trump, William, world leaders, and other heads of state convened in France’s capital for the ceremonial reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, ravaged by fire in April 2019.
William represented his father, the sovereign, at the commemoration as he continues to advance his status as a global statesman.
“I asked him about his wife, and he said she is doing well. I inquired about his father’s condition, and he revealed that his father is battling a significant illness.
He expressed his love for both his father and his wife, which he described as heartbreaking.
“We had a wonderful conversation for about half an hour, or slightly more. “We had a fantastic conversation,” the US president-elect stated.
Trump also commented on Prince William’s appearance, saying that he looked well and “very handsome.”
“He’s a handsome guy. “He looked very, very handsome last night,” he told the Post. “Do some people look better in person? He looked terrific. He looked great, and I told him so.”
“I had a great talk with the prince,” Trump said of their time together.
As the two men posed for photos in the foyer, Trump praised the heir apparent to the British throne, saying, “This is a good man. “He is doing an excellent job.”
The British royal family has had a year unlike any other (which William has described as “brutal”), with the announcement that both King Charles, 76, and Princess Kate, 42, had been diagnosed with cancer and were beginning treatment.
Buckingham Palace made the announcement about the King’s health in February, and his treatment is thought to continue.
The Princess of Wales revealed in March that she was undergoing cancer treatment, reduced her royal duties to prioritize her health, and announced in September that she had completed chemotherapy.
“I didn’t know this was going to be the year that I’ve just had,” Princess Kate said in a rare comment about battling cancer during her Together at Christmas carol service in London on December 6.
“The unplanned,” said event performer Paloma Faith, who reportedly brought Kate up the subject after asking about her health.
“The unplanned, exactly,” the Princess of Wales repeated. “But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times, and many who are here today.”
The royal family turned out in force for Princess Kate’s fourth annual Together at Christmas at Westminster Abbey on December 6, her most significant event since she announced on September 9 that she had completed chemo.
The Prince and Princess of Wales brought their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, for their first public appearance in six months, but King Charles and Queen Camilla were not among the royals — most likely due to practical reasons.
The King and Queen, both 77, would have technically overshadowed Princess Kate as the most senior royals at the event, given their order of precedence, and Queen Camilla is also recovering from a chest infection.
The Together at Christmas service brought the royal family together, and Prince William left for Paris the next day.
