Cincinnati — A pretty close call on Interstate 71. A WLWT viewer obtained video of the event over the weekend. It occurred just before a wrong-way crash on the same section of roadway.
“All I could think about was what was going to happen to the people further north of me,” witness Brian Channel explained.
The video shared to WLWT shows headlights shining in the wrong way on I-71.
As Channel turns the corner, his dash camera catches the moments when he was nearly hit by the vehicle.
“As soon as I recognised it was moving, it was coming at a different angle, and I just tried to get out of his way and let them know they were going the wrong way best I could with the brights and horn and everything, but he was unresponsive,” Channel told me.
After driving off the exit, Channel contacted 911.
According to police, an accident involving a vehicle travelling the wrong direction near the Martin Luther King Jr. exit on Sunday night is being investigated as an OVI.
We showed the dash camera footage to Cincinnati police. A representative told us that they are not certain whether the automobile on the clip is the same as the one involved in the crash just up the road on the same night at the same time, but they are looking into it for us.
“So many things happen, and this kind of went under the radar, and it’s important that traffic issues be addressed here for everyone’s safety,” Channel argued.
According to radio dispatch, the driver of the car involved in the accident was sent to a hospital. We are investigating their status and determining whether charges will be brought.
