Houston, Texas – A lady has been released on bond after the Harris County Sheriff’s Office claimed that she battered her 4-year-old goddaughter, leaving the youngster in severe condition. Tameria Barnett, thirty, is now facing first-degree child injury charges.
On Tuesday, cops responded to a medical call reporting an injured youngster. Londlyn Anthony, four, was discovered to have evidence of maltreatment and was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in bad condition. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later revealed on X that the girl had allegedly been beaten every day for months.
The sheriff’s office started an inquiry, which revealed that Barnett had been caring for the youngster since September. Officials confirmed that Barnett is a close friend of Londlyn’s birth mother and godmother. The child’s mother is currently incarcerated.
On November 29, an arrest warrant was obtained and Barnett was brought into prison at the Harris County Jail.
On Monday, prosecutors revealed horrifying details of Londlyn’s abuse, claiming that Barnett hit her and left her with bruises, soft tissue swelling, and other injuries.
“I’m praying for a miracle so she can come home before Christmas,” Londlyn’s father, Kerrick Anthony, stated. “I’m actually only here for my daughter. Justice for my daughter. “Justice for Londlyn.”
Court documents described the abuse, demonstrating that Barnett had gravely harmed the child for months with a belt, a cable, her hands, and an unknown instrument.
“My daughter has screws in her head that monitor her brainwaves. She is still on life support. She cannot breathe on her own. “Her ribs are bruised,” Anthony explained.
Anthony revealed that he left Londlyn in Barnett’s care while he moved. He added that his family had nominated Barnett, and he trusted her as godmother.
“I feel like I’ve let my child down, and that I’m responsible. “I personally feel responsible, but I am not responsible,” Anthony stated.
Barnett has a criminal background that includes violence. In 2018, she was charged with assault after striking a woman with her fist.
“We have none of the proof. We do not have the police report right now. Sylvia Escobedo, Barnett’s court-appointed defence counsel, stated, “We don’t have the discovery, so she is presumed innocent right now.”
Londlyn remains in Texas Children’s Hospital, where she is recovering. Barnett was released with a $100,000 bond. A judge issued conditions for her release, including staying away from youngsters under the age of 17 and wearing a GPS tracker. She is due back in court in February 2025.
