Jennifer Lopez nearly spent a fortune to hire her dream performer for her and Alex Rodriguez’s wedding.
On the Thursday, December 26 episode of “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her” podcast, celebrity wedding planner Marcy Blum discussed working on the couple’s nuptials before their eventual split. “I will tell you a story because I never signed an NDA,” she said.
According to Blum, her clients are frequently surprised by “the price of headliners,” and Lopez, 55, and Rodriguez, 49, were no exceptions. “We were working with J.Lo and A-Rod before their breakup. And we are going through a list of musicians, and she says, ‘What about Bruno Mars?'” she explained.
Blum, who had recently worked with Mars (39 at the time), surprised Lopez with the “Treasure” singer’s high fee. “I said, ‘I just worked with him and he is $5 [million],'” she told me. “Jennifer said, ‘Do not be ridiculous!'” I said, ‘I am telling you, $5 million plus rider. You will have 45 minutes or an hour the night of the wedding.”
Blum did not say whether Lopez agreed to Mars’ price, but the wedding fell through after she and Rodriguez ended their engagement in April 2021.
When it comes to working with high-profile performers for events, Blum says she and her team “do not give them an excuse to be obnoxious” by accommodating their needs. “We are like, ‘Here we go, and here’s someone who is going to handhold you and da da da,'” said the woman.
Blum also noted that having a celebrity like Mars as the event’s “regular entertainment” is unusual. “No one wants to do their first dance, or perhaps they do but shouldn’t, to Coldplay or something. “That is just dumb,” she remarked. “What you want is a band and maybe a DJ, followed by 45 minutes of Chris Martin, Elton John, or whomever you want. Otherwise, everything revolves around them.
After two years of dating, Lopez and Rodriguez got engaged in March 2019. In March 2021, news broke that the two had split up, but the couple did not confirm their separation until the following month.
“Jen really does wish Alex the best,” a source told Us Weekly in June 2022. “She has completely moved on. She gives no thought to Alex. Their relationship was full of drama, and she does not have time for that in her life.
On an episode of “The Martha Stewart Podcast” in July 2022, Rodriguez said he and Lopez “had a great time” in their relationship. He went on: “More importantly, we always put the kids front and center in everything we do.” Lopez and her ex-husband Marc Anthony have twins named Max and Emme, who are 16 years old. Rodriguez has two daughters, Natasha (20) and Ella (16), with his ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis.
Lopez moved on with Ben Affleck, from whom she filed for divorce after two years of marriage in August. Rodriguez, meanwhile, briefly dated Kathryne Padgett in 2022 before falling in love with Jaclyn Cordeiro later that same year.
