Bridge Demolition for I-25 North Express Lanes Project Causes Weeklong Closures in Colorado

The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced a series of temporary full road closures in the coming weeks to allow for bridge demolition work linked with the I-25 North Express Lanes Project, Mead to Berthoud program.

According to CDOT, Valley Road, located south of the Little Thompson River, will be completely closed from Monday, January 6, at 7 a.m., to Friday, January 10, at 5 p.m.

These closures, which are intended to improve safety for both travelers and construction crews, are also expected to reduce the extent of traffic delays caused by such complex projects.

The rationale stems from a strategy that prioritizes condensed episodes of intense work over prolonged, staggered interventions. While inconvenient, this strategy is regarded as ultimately more efficient.

A map outlining the closure of Valley Road under I-25 has been made public, allowing commuters to better comprehend the affected area. Weld County Road 32 under I-25 will be closed from Monday, Jan. 13, at 7 a.m. until Friday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m., as contractors prepare to dismantle the bridge that currently crosses this roadway.

Anticipating the resulting disruptions to daily traffic flows, a set of detour routes have been recommended, “Eastbound WCR 32 traffic will take WCR 7 north to WCR 34 at Mead, turn east to the Eastern I-25 Frontage Road and turn south to WCR 32,” as per CDOT, further advising that “Westbound WCR 32 traffic will take the Eastern I-25 Frontage Road north to WCR 34 at Mead, turn west to WCR 7 and turn south to WCR 32,” ways in which local drivers can more easily navigate a

These infrastructure improvements are part of the larger I-25 North Express Lanes Project, which includes bridge renovation and expansion to improve traffic flow and road safety along I-25 between Mead and Berthoud.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is scheduled to offer updates on the project’s progress as well as more traffic warnings while construction progresses.
