A single parent who stepped in to aid his neighbors after Hurricane Helene wrecked North Carolina is being offered his own little home.
Ricky Ward, whose home was cut in half by the terrible storms, will spend Christmas with his children in a new home due to the humanitarian charity Wine to Water. After his village was devastated by devastating flooding, the father of two volunteered to clear brush and repair bridges.
“I’m so excited!” he told “America Reports” on Thursday. “A little bit more room.”
Ward expressed excitement at having a new sleeping arrangement for his children and a chair to sit on. Following the hurricane, he spent some time in a shed before returning to his camper to sleep.
Despite all of his trials, he reminisced on how faith got him through.
“I just got to take one day at a time, is what I’ve kind of come to grips with,” he grumbled. “All I have to do now is wait for God to bless me, and then God will bless me again. That’s basically what I’m waiting for.
Donna Dunham of Wine to Water told Fox News that “there is still a lot more to be done” in the aftermath of the disaster in North Carolina.
“We have people on the list that still need repairs in their homes, and we’ve got people working with us and volunteers to help with that, along with trying to bring in tiny homes or campers just to get people out of the cold,” she told me. “So, it’s a lot of work, and it’s a group effort 100%.”
Despite the disaster, Ward stated that neighbors supported one another.
“Everybody kind of is teamed up with each other, all our neighbors,” he claimed. “I met neighbors I didn’t know I had. It’s just been breathtaking. I’m quite humbled by this.”
