A 66-year-old man died last week after being struck by a car on Crain Highway.
On Friday, December 6, at around 8:18 p.m., Charles sheriff’s officers were en route to a restaurant in the 6500 block of Crain Highway to check on the welfare of an individual.
While on the way, an officer noticed a pedestrian who had been hit by a car on the shoulder along Crain Highway’s northbound left lane.
The pedestrian was fatally injured in the crash.
According to La Plata Police Department detectives, the person killed in the crash was Robert Martin Pope, 66, of Glen Burnie.
A preliminary investigation found that witnesses noticed the person crawling on the shoulder of Crain Highway, according to a La Plata Police Department announcement.
According to witnesses, the pedestrian was struck by a 2021 Chrysler 300 heading northbound in the left lane. The operator of the Chrysler remained on the scene, according to the announcement.
