A Hamlet man convicted of assault last month has now been charged with rape and kidnapping.

A Hamlet man on probation is facing rape and kidnapping charges stemming from an alleged incident on December 9.

An arrest warrant alleges that 32-year-old Casey James Braddock raped a lady without her consent. The warrant further alleges that the woman was abused on her body and face, and that her “ear was bitten to the point of maiming.”

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested Braddock on the same day and charged him with first-degree forced rape, assault resulting in serious harm, and first-degree kidnapping. He is being held at Richmond County Jail and is expected to appear in court on December 19.

According to online court records, Braddock had pending traffic infractions since August.

According to records with the North Carolina Court System and the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Braddock was convicted of assault on a female on November 18 and sentenced to 12 months suspended. Additional charges of domestic violence and assault with a gun were dropped. Braddock was required to undergo a substance abuse examination.

The victim appears to be the same in this case as in the November conviction.

All criminal defendants are deemed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
