The Albemarle Fire Department responds to a fire that started Monday morning

At about 2 a.m. Monday, the Albemarle Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire in the 400 block of Colston Street.

When the units arrived, considerable smoke was coming from the structure’s eaves and windows. The fire was localized in one area and rapidly brought under control by firefighters. The structure suffered smoke damage throughout.

A family of four that lived in the house managed to escape unharmed.
The American Red Cross was contacted to provide the family with temporary shelter, food, and clothing.

The Albemarle Fire Department Fire Marshal was asked to investigate the fire, as is customary procedure. The fire is still under investigation.
