Police say a man has been arrested in North Carolina for the St. Patrick's Day murder of a Maryland mother

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. – A Maryland man was arrested in North Carolina after allegedly shooting and murdering a young mom on St. Patrick’s Day in Prince George’s County.

Police said Raheem Hawkins-Boseman, 23, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Suitland resident Jessica Somerville, 27.

According to police, Hawkins-Boseman opened fire outside a fast-food restaurant on Silver Hill Road in District Heights at 2 a.m. on March 17, 2024. Somerville was found in the parking lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. She later died.

Somerville worked for the United States Postal Service and is the mother of a 6-year-old girl named Jaci.

Surveillance video released by Prince George’s County police shows part of the encounter before Somerville was shot and died.

After avoiding police for more than eight months, authorities confirmed his apprehension on Thursday morning. Authorities claim he was apprehended with the assistance of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation is continuing. More information is coming later today.
