On Thanksgiving Day, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will not send out monthly payments. Today is a Federal Holiday, so SSA can’t deliver payments.
In other words, Social Security will never send you a payment on a Federal Holiday. You will get your check or direct deposit the day before the business day.
3 Social Security payments are sent on Wednesdays
The last three payments in November are made on Wednesdays, which is another reason why Social Security won’t send payments to retired people or people with disabilities.
Because of these two main points, SSA can never send payments on Thanksgiving Day:
- Thanksgiving is a Federal Holiday, and no checks or direct deposits are issued on these days
- The latest payments are delivered to the recipient’s bank accounts on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of the month
This makes sure that people get their money on time. Since banks, SSA offices, and other financial institutions are closed on Thanksgiving, it’s best not to send money on this holiday.
Social Security payments before and after Thanksgiving
The Administration plans to make payments every month on November 13, 20, and 27. These checks and direct deposits will go to retirees and people who get SSDI who are eligible.
You must have been born on a certain date to be eligible. You can’t be on SSI, and you had to be getting benefits after April 30, 1997. Check below to see if you qualify.
- retirement or SSDI on November 13: birth date from 1-10
- retirement or SSDI on November 20: born from 11-20
- retirement or SSDI on November 27: birthday from 21-31
Payments after Thanksgiving
Also, Social Security has set a new payment date for November 20, 2024, after Thanksgiving. The last check from SSA is due on November 29, which is also the day of Thanksgiving (November 28).
This payment is for people who get Supplemental Security Income. On Black Friday, people who get SSI will get up to $943.
