An incident that resulted in the deaths of a mother and two young children is currently under investigation by the New York State Police.
Chianti Means, 33, a resident of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and her children, Roman Rossman, 9, and Mecca Means, 5, perished on October 28 at Niagara Falls State Park after circumventing safety measures, according to the police.
According to a statement from New York State Park Trooper James O’Callaghan, authorities were summoned at approximately 9:00 a.m. and “responded to an incident on or around Goat Island in Niagara Falls.” “Three individuals…crossed the safety guard rail and plunged over Niagara Falls on Luna Island, which is connected to Goat Island,” according to the investigation.
The bodies of the victims were not found by the police, but they have determined that the deaths of the three individuals were “intentional in nature.” An investigation is presently in progress to ascertain additional information.
On October 30, Trooper O’Callaghan addressed reporters in order to clarify the findings of the police investigation thus far.
“They went there and never came out,” the Public Information Officer explained. “That’s where we’re at.”
O’Callaghan noted that there are “a lot of security measures” at the Falls, adding, “It’s not something where they just stumbled in.”
Although he was unable to share specifics about the witness testimonies his team had acquired owing to the continuing investigation, the officer stated that “it is alarming what they told us.”
“What were the actual circumstances of how that went down?” O’Callaghan continued. “That is the portion that we might be able to fix, or maybe not. However, we do not believe there are any other parties engaged.
“Based on the information we have,” said the officer, “we do know it was an intentional act, but the reason why is tougher to answer.”
