Cops have provided an update on their search for Madalina Cojocari, who went missing two years ago.
Madalina, 11, disappeared after getting off her school bus in Cornelius, North Carolina, on November 21, 2022. Cornelius Chief of Police David Baucom told The Sun that detectives have been “actively investigating her disappearance for nearly two years”.
They stated: “CPD is committed to finding Madalina, and our investigation will continue until she is located.Police “still have detectives assigned to the case, and we continue to work with our law enforcement partners at the FBI and NCSBI,” Chief Baucom stated.
The inquiry into Diana Cojocari remains ongoing, despite her return to Moldova. The Cornelius Police Department requests that anyone with information contact them.
Madalina’s mother, Diana Cojocari, and the girl’s stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, have both served time in jail for failing to report the girl missing. They both deny knowing where she is.
They were both convicted of neglecting to report Madalina missing, and Diana, 37, served 520 days in jail before being freed in May.
Diana was identified as a suspect by the CPD in July. She appeared to be leaving the country in a Facebook post a few days before.
CPD stated, “None of her property was released, and we are unable to prevent her from leaving the country.” She presently has no active arrest warrants.”
Since then, Diana has shared several images on Facebook that look to have been taken in Romania. In one photograph, the mother is shown beaming at the camera while holding a huge sunflower up to her face. “La gradina Lui tata,” she captioned the photo, which means “In his father’s garden.”
Another selfie featured her wearing sunglasses and standing in front of a lake. She also tweeted other photos of lakes and various settings, including one labeled “Si asta e Romania,” which translates to “And this is Romania.”
Madalina was only reported missing after school officials got concerned that she was not attending lessons, and she was returned to her home on December 12, 2022. Diana told authorities that she remembered putting her daughter to bed on November 23, but she had vanished by the next day.
She stated she had delayed reporting her missing to avoid a confrontation with Palmiter. Palmiter filed for divorce last month, marking the end of their eight-year marriage.
