A Florida couple was arrested after launching an expletive-laden diatribe against a school officer who had disciplined their child, before allegedly attacking her in the hallway.
Jorge Rivera and his wife Dagmarie Aponte Iturrino met with a school resource officer on Tuesday to appeal their son’s battery charge for shoving a girl at Deltona Middle School the day before.
The officer’s bodycam film showed the parents becoming increasingly agitated, with Rivera telling her, “I pay your salary, you dumb b****… you are a worthless piece of s***,” before being ordered to leave.
Iturrino pushed the deputy against a wall in the corridor before her husband hit her in the head, knocked her to the ground, and grabbed her Taser.
The deputy stood up, drew her weapon, ordered Rivera to drop the Taser, and handcuffed him before putting him into custody.
Rivera and Iturrino have each been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence, disrupting school functions, and trespassing on school grounds, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Department.
Rivera was also charged with armed robbery and grand theft for stealing the deputy’s Taser.
A hate crime enhancement was added to some of Rivera’s charges when he allegedly addressed the deputy a nasty insult moments before attacking her, which was also captured on camera.
The couple’s youngster was present during the entire episode.
According to the sheriff’s office, the officer received treatment for concussion symptoms both on the scene and at a nearby hospital.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised her calm, effective response to a violent attack, saying, “If you’re wondering why certain youngsters in today’s culture have no fear of repercussions, go no farther than these parents as Exhibit A.
“I’m glad they’re locked up, and I look forward to them being held fully accountable for this blatant attack on our deputy who was just doing her job.”
