Driver crashes into utility pole in Raleigh, takes down traffic lights during chase with Highway Patrol

Following a chase by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a driver crashed into a utility pole in Raleigh.

On Saturday morning, the WRAL Breaking News Tracker was at Falls of Neuse Road and Old Wake Forest Road.

Traffic lights were nearly touching the ground.

The driver, Arti Sali Salihu, is anticipated to be well, with only minor injuries. Salihu faces charges for evading arrest using a motor vehicle.

The chase began shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Hammond Road near I-40, when state troopers attempted to conduct a traffic check. The driver was initially timed at 92 mph in a 45 mph zone.

During the chase on I-440, Salihu reached speeds of up to 150 mph, according to Highway Patrol.
