A Texas mother was accused of leaving her baby home alone and covered in feces after traveling 400 miles for a Hinge date.
Killeen police charged Reese Louise Myers, 25, with abandoning or endangering a child.
The event occurred in July, and the mother was extradited to Texas after being detained by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office in California on a fugitive warrant on November 5, according to The Independent.
Four months earlier, on July 28, at approximately 9:50 a.m., cops were dispatched to 600 W Hallmark Ave in Killeen, Texas, due to concerns about the welfare of a kid.
A 16-month-old was seen “hanging out near a broken window” after an aggressive dog attempted to attack them, according to a witness who talked with police.
When officials arrived to the scene, they noticed the child dangling from the window, which had been mended with “plexiglass sheeting and cardboard” and was not shattered, according to the report.
According to Killeen police, the child was found scantily dressed in a t-shirt with “feces on the child’s skin and signs of possible diaper rash” when officers entered the residence.
A search of the unit revealed that the infant had been abandoned beside two dogs on the premises.
When detectives reached Myers, the 16-month-old’s mother, she reportedly confessed that she had traveled to San Antonio the day before, on July 27, to meet up with a man she had been conversing with on a dating site.
According to an affidavit obtained by KWTX, the encounter was planned using Hinge.
Killeen PD stated that the mother had planned to meet the man on a dating app, but did not disclose which.
According to investigators, the mother told them that the youngster was being cared for by a babysitter she found on Facebook. Myers was instructed by authorities to return to Killeen, Texas.
Meanwhile, investigators contacted the alleged babysitter, who stated that she last communicated with the suspected mother in December 2023 but had not heard from her since.
According to police, Facebook communications seen by Killeen PD confirmed the pair’s lack of contact and the last exchange occurred in December 2023.
The 16-month-old was medically checked at Advent Health in Killeen before being taken into care by Child Protective Services.
Special Victims Unit investigators reported the matter to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office, and a complaint was returned, resulting in Myers being charged with child negligence.
Myers was eventually arrested and put into Bells County Jail.
