Huntersville, North Carolina — Police say a Huntersville student is healing after being stabbed in the eye with a comb pick by another student at J.M. Alexander Middle School.

Police say what a student brought to school wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, but what she’s accused of doing with it was.

“It was not (considered) a weapon on campus,” said Brian Vaughan, assistant police chief for the Huntersville Police Department. “It’s not a normal thing to happen at school.”

According to investigators, two kids had a dispute in the corridor at J.M Alexander Middle School on Tuesday.

Nobody else was involved.

It was just the boy and the girl.

Police said the girl grabbed the comb pick and shoved it into the boy’s eye.

“No different than an adult, that if you need help, we would expect that you call the police for the help that you need and not try to take matters into your own hands,” according to Vaughan.

The youngster was brought to the hospital.

Officials believe his injuries are not life-threatening.

The girl was detained and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

She was sent to the Cabarrus Juvenile Detention Center in Concord.

According to police, this is a rare and isolated incident, and parents should not be concerned for their children’s safety.

“The Huntersville schools that are specific to us are very safe schools and we have a great working relationship with the staff at those schools and it’s important that we maintain that,” Vaughan told the crowd.

Police said the school resource officer investigated various social media reports about possible retaliation for the stabbing, but none of them were credible.

Investigators encourage individuals to always report any concerns so that authorities can look into them.
