A 6-year-old child was airlifted after being shot in the Maxton region of Robeson County

Robeson County, North Carolina – According to Maxton Police Chief Schirra Johnson, a six-year-old girl was shot on Graham Street in Maxton, Robeson County, on Sunday afternoon.

Johnson stated that the child was badly injured and was transported to a hospital in Scotland County.

He went on to say that a man was shooting into a car at a woman when the youngster was struck.

Johnson claimed the individual fled the area but was subsequently apprehended by cops.

He stated that at this point, they do not believe the child was the intended target.

Johnson stated that while investigating the killing, they heard rapid gunshots on West Graham Street and Wilmington Street within the Maxton municipal boundaries.

Additional Robeson County police officers, including members of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are on the site to assist with the investigation and keep the community secure.
