The October SSI payment has been officially announced: Social Security has confirmed the exact date of payment

The October SSI payment has been officially announced Social Security has confirmed the exact date of payment

Seven million Americans with low incomes get an SSI payment every month from the Social Security Administration. This helps them pay their bills. The SSA decided that all recipients would be paid on the first of every month so that they could get these benefits.

This means that SSI beneficiaries will get a new payment tomorrow, October 1st. Besides these people, this week another payment will be made to people who get Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Find out more about the next payment dates here if you are qualified for either of these two programs.

Social Security confirmed another SSI payment for this week

The SSA has to send out millions of payments every month, so they made a plan for each month so that all beneficiaries can know when they will get their benefits. According to the Social Security payment schedule, these are the confirmed times that people who get SSI or SSDI will get their money in October:

SSI beneficiaries

As was already said, these people always get their SSI funds on the first of the month, unless it’s a holiday or weekend. If this happens, the government agency will reschedule the payment for the work day before to make sure that the monthly income of the beneficiaries is not affected. Based on SSA rules, these are the times that SSI payments will be made in the second half of the year:

SSI payments SSI payments date Advanced payment
August August 1st August 30th (September 1st)
September
October October 1st
November November 1st November 29th (December 1st)
December December 31st (January 1st)

SSDI beneficiaries

The people who are eligible for these payouts will get them either before or after May 1997 for the first time. If they applied for disability benefits before 1997, they will always get their payments on the third of every month. If they applied for disability benefits after 1997, they will get their payments on the following dates:

  • October 9th (Second Wednesday). Beneficiaries who were born between the 1st and the 10th will receive their disability benefits on this day.
  • October 16th (Third Wednesday). Beneficiaries who were born between the 10th and the 20th  will receive their disability benefits on this day.
  • October 23rd (Fourth Wednesday). Beneficiaries who were born between the 21st and the 31st will receive their disability benefits on this day.

What is the difference between the SSI payment and benefits from the SSDI program?

Even though they pay out at different times, both SSI and SSDI are very important sources of income. With help from the Social Security Administration (SSA), people who are poor enough to qualify for government aid can get help. In most cases, SSI payments are made on the first of every month.

However, if that day comes on a holiday or weekend, the payment is shifted to the next available date. SSDI, on the other hand, gives monthly payments to people who are disabled and can’t make a good living or who have hit retirement age. Based on the person’s date of birth, SSDI payments are given out on certain Wednesdays every month.

Americans want to apply for disability benefits more easily

It can be hard for first-time applicants to get disability benefits, like SSI payments or SSDI benefits. A recent poll by Data for Progress found that most people think the federal government should make it easier for people to get disability benefits and get rid of the rules that make it hard for some disabled users to get married.

At the start of the poll, people were asked if they thought the U.S. government should make it easier or harder to get Social Security disability payments. Four out of ten people (49%) say the US should do something to make it easier for people to get benefits. Only 9% say the US should do something to make it harder.

On top of that, 70% of voters support the SSI program after being briefly explained. This includes 77% of Democrats, 69% of Independents, 64% of Republicans, and 74% of disabled voters. The poll shows that most Americans want to see more money put into disability payments, especially the Supplemental Security Income program.

They also want changes that would make it easier for disabled Americans in need and seniors with little or no income to get these benefits. For example, they want to lower the asset and salary limits for SSI.
