A well-known food item that was sold all over the country has been taken off the market because it could cause illness that could be fatal.
According to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Enoki King Mushroom Farm recalled its 5.3-ounce packages of Enoki Mushroom because they might have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This happened after routine testing by the Maryland State Department of Health found the bacteria.
The listeria bacteria can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections” that can make people very sick, especially children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people whose immune systems aren’t strong enough, according to the FDA. Some of the symptoms are fever, chills, headaches, body aches, feeling sick, and diarrhea.
The recalled product was sent all over the country in clear plastic wrap with the UPC code 860011505600 on the back and the affected lot code 4877 on the front.
As of October 11, no one has been sickened because of the recall, and distribution has been stopped. People should take the goods back to where they bought it to get their money back in full.
