Even though his state is still healing from Hurricane Helene, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper had to use his time on Friday afternoon to clear up false information that Trump had spread.
Trump said on Truth Social earlier Friday that Cooper and “Democrats in Washington,” such as President Biden and Kamala Harris, were stopping aid from coming into the state to help people in need. He said, “It’s all over the place—A HORRIBLE SITUATION.”
“When we start our new job on January 20, I’ll make it up to everyone.” “Wait, I’m coming!” Trump’s post said, which showed that it wasn’t really about helping but about getting people to vote in North Carolina.
Cooper replied to Trump’s post on X with a photo and said it was “a flat out lie.”
“We work with all of our partners 24 hours a day to help people.” Cooper said, “Trump’s lies and conspiracy theories have taken away the hope of first responders and people who have lost everything. They have also helped con artists and put rescue and government workers in danger.”
Since Hurricane Helene hit the southeast of the U.S. in late September, Trump has been spreading the idea that Democrats are hurting Republicans by not giving them help. But his words have hurt his followers and some of the worst-hit people by the storm because fewer people are asking the government for help when they really need it.
On Friday, Trump also made a reference to the far-right theory that the government is controlling the weather. Representative Chuck Edwards is one of the local Republicans who has spoken out against these lies. President Biden has also spoken out against the “onslaught of lies.”
However, Trump and other Republicans keep making the false claims because they think they can help them in the election, even if it means putting a lot of people in danger. With less than a month to go until the election, Cooper and other leaders have to deal with both practical issues with hurricane help and people issues caused by Trump.
