New Horizons and 5 other organizations in Richmond County have been honored with Care to Share grants from Pee Dee Electric

ROCKINGHAM — Pee Dee Electric is giving Care to Share grants to 12 groups and agencies across the area for the third quarter of 2024. Six of them are in Richmond County.

One of the three groups that got a $5,000 grant was New Horizons Life and Family Services.

Executive Director Teshika Wall says that the agency helps victims of sexual attack and domestic violence by giving them emergency shelter and being with them in the hospital and court.

New Horizons helps people with protection orders and Legal Aid paperwork. They also help with rent and bills, household items, clothes, and toiletries. They also offer support groups and counselling.

“On behalf of New Horizons Life and Family Services, I want to thank Pee Dee Electric Corporation for their incredible kindness,” Wall told the RO. “They chose us to receive their Care to Share grant, and we are so grateful for their kindness and dedication to helping our community.”

Since e-filing has become the norm in the courts, Wall said the grant money would be used to buy laptops and printers so clients can file protection orders and print out civil and criminal court papers. New Horizons will also buy filing boxes to keep private information about clients safe.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, New Horizons will hold its yearly protest against domestic violence in front of the old courthouse. Call 910-997-4840 to find out more.

Taylor Demby, who is in charge of marketing and relations for PDE, said that $5,000 was also given to the Richmond County Hospice and the Senior Games of Richmond County.

The annual Taste of the Sandhills fundraiser with Dancing with the Stars made more than $90,000 for Richmond County Hospice.

PDE also gave $7,500 to the Ellerbe Fire Department, the Richmond County Rescue Squad, and the Richmond County Chiefs Association. These are all first responder groups.

Demby said that PDE also gave out a total of seventy Care to Share grants: four in Anson County, one in Union County, and one in Montgomery County.

Demby said that the program “supports initiatives that improve the health of communities and help local non-profits.”

Demby said, “Pee Dee Electric’s Care to Share Program uses the power of giving to make a real difference in our communities.” “It is an honour for us to give grants to local emergency services and non-profits.”

Demby says that first responder groups can get grants of up to $7,500 and that they can apply every two years. Every three years, other area nonprofits can apply for a grant of up to $5,000.

Demby also said, “I’m very proud of the important work these nonprofits do in our communities and all over our service area.” “It’s satisfying to help them with their missions through our Care to Share program.”

Rounding up members’ bills to the nearest dollar amount is how the Care to Share grant program gets its money.

If your 501(c)(3) nonprofit wants to apply for a grant, please send Demby a message with the following information:
