According to court documents, the 23-year-old defendant, later named as Oven, was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole after killing 16-year-old Arenda several years earlier. The defendant learnt his fate after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder earlier this year.
Prosecutors believe the defendant murdered the 16-year-old girl, whose remains were never recovered, in 2019. Authorities suspect the woman was buried in the mountains where the defendant killed her.
The tragic event occurred in January 2019, according to court records. Prosecutors say the defendant chose the woman at 5 p.m. on the fatal day. The defendant contacted his brother ‘to have shovels ready’ an hour later.
The defendant and his older sibling, 27-year-old Garry, drove to the highlands. The brother was first charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and received a one-year sentence in county jail.
During the inquiry, officials determined that the reason for the murder dates back several years before the girl was killed. Both the victim and the defendant were buddies from the same school. Both the victim and the defendant attended a party at a local park two years prior to the murder.
Shortly after the attendance officer broke up the party, the defendant threw a firearm he was holding at the victim and told her to hide it. The victim then attempted to hide the gun in a drainage channel, only to be apprehended by the cop. When officials examined the child, she allegedly confirmed that the defendant threw the gun and directed her to dispose of it.
A few months later, both the victim and the defendant were expelled from school. The defendant was compelled to relocate with his father, more than 50 kilometers away. Prosecutors allege that because the defendant believed the victim was to blame, he was sentenced.
Earlier this year, after being convicted, the defendant called a family member and inquired if he’should get a tmedal for being a convicted killer’.
During the inquiry, investigators revealed that the defendant had asked the victim whether she would join him on drug deliveries and ride along as he robbed drug dealers. For whatever reason, the girl accepted, and she was last seen alive.
