Hamlet police are looking into business and car break-ins

A business owner in the area had to clean up a mess Thursday morning after someone broke in.

Ray Mills, who owns Axe to Grind in Hamlet right now, gave the RO a security video that seemed to show two people in hoodies breaking into the restaurant and bar through the side door.

There was a break-in around 3:15 a.m., Mills said, just a few hours after the event closed at 11 p.m.

The thieves allegedly broke a glass display case and stole about $3,500 worth of THCa and gummies, in addition to breaking the glass door.

Phil Dixon Jr. from the UNC School of Government says that products with less than 0.3% delta-9 THC are legal in the state and are called hemp.

Mills said that the damage is thought to be about $1,500.

Police in Hamlet say the smash-and-grab happened in about 15 seconds and that the suspects were “well covered up” with hats and masks on so they could not be identified.

Police say that the position of the security video and the fact that it is black and white also make it harder to identify the person.

The video seems to show the suspects coming up to the business from the other side of the street, close to where Raleigh Street and Hamlet Avenue meet.

The thieves seem to turn left in front of Ace Hardware as they leave.

The police are also looking into a break-in at Hood Packaging late last week.

Additionally, two individuals broke into a single car in the parking lot overnight as part of this case.

The police are still looking into both cases.
