Drivers of the Street Outlaws get ready to roll at the Rock

ROCKINGHAM — Winner of the Rock’s no-prep race will be named “king.”

This weekend, Oct. 11–12, “Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings” will be back at Rockingham Dragway for “No Prep Elite.” That will show what happened.

The track’s co-owner, Dan VanHorn, said, “There are a few events on the Rockingham Dragway’s calendar each year that really move the needle.” Street Outlaws is definitely one of those events.

“It’s hard to get ahead of yourself when there are 45 events and more than 100 race days in a season, but this event has been planned for months.”

The Street Outlaws Live Facebook page says that Murder Nova is currently in first place with 90 points. They are all tied for second place with 50 points: Ryan Martin, Robin Roberts, Giuseppe Gentile, and Clay Cole.

Justin Swanstrom and Kye Kelley are tied for sixth place with 30 points each. Scott Taylor, Jeff Lutz, and Chris Rankin are next, with 20 points each.

Disco Dean, Kayla Morton, Paige Coughlin, Bobby Ducote, Jim Howe, and Nate Slayer are at the bottom of the rankings, with 10 points each.

Each driver who wins a race this weekend will get 15 points.

Gentile crashed into the wall while running with Lutz last week at Oklahoma’s Tulsa Raceway Park. Cole won that race.

The last time Street Outlaws came to Rockingham was in 2022 to record for Season 5. Roberts got hurt in a crash while racing against Swanstrom.

“Al and I, along with our families, went to the first Street Outlaws event at Rockingham Dragway three weeks before we bought the track, just to watch and cheer.” “Little did we know that the unexpectedly large crowd would make us all knee-deep in the operation,” VanHorn said.

“That weekend was one of the most important lessons we’ve ever learnt because it made us realise we would need to prepare for something much bigger than what we had seen,” VanHorn said. “You can’t fully plan for a turnout that is bigger than you thought it would be, but we were going to try.”

Lizzy Musi, who used to be on the show Street Outlaws, died of breast cancer at the end of June. She was 33 years old. Musi was supposed to be at the Dig or Die event at the Rock in March, but the weather cancelled the event.

VanHorn said that Street Outlaws will bring “our biggest crowd of the year,” but he didn’t say how many people. About 18,000 people came to the event in 2022.

Together with Checkered Flag Ministries, Street Outlaws is collecting canned goods to send to the people who were hurt by Hurricane Helene. Aside from that, the dragway has been gathering things to help with a local aid effort.

VanHorn said, “We hope the people in the area can enjoy this weekend during this hard time for our fellow North Carolinians.” “We’re just as excited as ever to host this big event and see how exciting the Street Outlaw racers are.”
