Week 6: Raiders at Pinecrest

Week 6 Raiders at Pinecrest

SOUTHERN PINES — The Richmond Senior High School football team didn’t care about time or weather on Thursday.

Unfortunately, it rained all day, so the Raiders had to play a day earlier than planned. They still beat Pinecrest High School anyway.

Richmond was just under five minutes away from closing out their Sandhills Athletic Conference rival, scoring on both offense and defense. The final score was 36-7, and Richmond won.

The Raiders scored two touchdowns in the first half, a fumble recovery by Zach Gardner in the end zone and an Evan Hodges pass to Keyonta Davis that went 61 yards for a score.

Following the second score, Billy West made the first point-after try and then a fake PAT on the ground that worked.

These two touchdowns were scored by Chance Crowder, both on the ground. The first run was for seven yards, and the second was for 45 yards.

AJ Covington picked off a pass early in the fourth quarter and returned it about 40 yards, giving Richmond one last chance to score.

The only other defensive play that the Raiders got off the field was Keidreion Crump’s pick in the first half. In the last five minutes of the game, Pinecrest (4-1, 0-1 SAC) got a touchdown pass of sixteen yards.

Hoke County (1-4, 0-1 SAC) will visit Richmond (4-2, 2-0 SAC) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
