CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — People tend to stay away when you set up a camera and a microphone. It really did only take thirty minutes to get our first interview.
“I guess I want to know about the rules for immigration.” “I wish things were a little easier now that I live here,” one man told our cameras.
Our goal was to find out what people really care about.
For that reason, we put up a sign asking people what they want to hear from either candidate in the first and maybe only debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. All of their replies were very different.
One man said, “Okay.” “I want to know how both candidates plan to make our country’s debt go away.” That’s not being talked about. No one, so that would make me pay attention.
A lot of things can be learned from polls:
A new one from Elon University found that voters in North Carolina were worried about their own and the state’s economies. There are a lot of Democrats who think abortion is more important than Republicans do.
We found that what matters to a voter relies on who you ask and what they’ve been through.
Two women spoke up. “Let’s talk more about how to make the criminal system more fair.” “I was raped, and I don’t think the prison system is on my side right now.”
The most recent Quinnipiac Poll shows that our “swing state” is what it says it is. With 49%, Harris has a small lead over Trump, who is now in second place with 46%.
There wasn’t much difference between Trump and Biden in November 2020. She will try to change things in the debate on Tuesday night.
Another woman said, “I see a lot of money being spent on people who are coming over, but I don’t see a lot of that same money being spent to help out people who are already citizens of the United States who are having a hard time.
I would love to hear from either candidate about what they’re doing to help those who are on the outside in our community right now.” Thank you!”
