Two people were shot and killed in San Diego over the Labor Day weekend. Both of the victims were teens.
The San Diego Police Department says the first shooting happened early Saturday morning in East Village, near Ninth and F streets. Monday, the U.S. Navy named the victim as Albert Lee Soto, an 18-year-old Navy Operations Specialist Seaman Apprentice.
“The person got into some kind of fight in one of the bars in the Gaslamp District. They left the bar quickly before the shooting and got into another fight here,” SDPD Lt. Louis Maggi said.
Maggi said that when the police came, they saw Soto lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. He was hurt badly and taken to the hospital, but he did not make it.
At least four people are being sought by police as possible suspects in the killing of Soto. Police say they were last seen running east on F Street.
After about 24 hours, on Sunday morning, there was another shooting in Barrio Logan. SDPD said in a news statement that they were called to three different reports of gunfire at 12:12 a.m., 1:08 a.m., and 2:06 a.m.
The police said that at 2:10 a.m., a car full of guys with one person who had been shot pulled up to Paradise Valley Hospital.
Police say the victim was rushed to the hospital and given CPR, but he did not make it.
The victim’s name has not been made public yet because the family needs to be notified.
Investigators want anyone who knows anything about this case to call the Homicide Unit of the SDPD or Crime Stoppers.
