ROCKINGHAM — The fall sports programs at Richmond Senior High School will start up again on Monday after a pretty good week in the Sandhills Athletic Conference.
All six shows will fight for the second week in a row. Also, it will be the first time this school year that all fall sports play against teams from the SAC.
Girls’ golf hosts home match
When the Lady Raider golf team and head coach Keith Parsons get back to the course on Monday, it will be their only home game of the season.
Richmond’s girls’ golf team will play against the five other SAC schools at Foxfire Resort and Golf. They finished fourth in the first game of the season last week.
At 3 p.m., players will start the nine-hole match with a round of shots.
Boys’ soccer eyes first conference victory
A season-long losing streak is over for the Raider soccer team and head coach Chris Larsen. This week they have two games to keep moving forward.
Richmond (1-8-1, 0-2 SAC) has chances to get its first SAC win when Hoke County (7-3-1, 1-0 SAC) and Union Pines (4-5, 1-0 SAC) come to Rockingham.
On Monday, Hoke County will go, and on Wednesday, the Vikings will do the same. The first game of each will start at 7 p.m.
The junior varsity boys’ soccer team (4-4-1, 1-0-1 SAC) plays Hoke County and Union Pines at home at the same times. The games begin at 5:15 p.m.
Volleyball gets three chances to get back in win column
Last week, the Lady Raider volleyball team came close to winning several times. However, they have now lost five straight games (5-7-1, 1-4 SAC).
This week, Richmond has three games to try to end the streak: two SAC games and one non-conference game. The first game is at home on Tuesday against Scotland High School (8-2, 3-2 SAC). This is the last game of the first round of regular-season conference play.
A trip by car The Lady Raiders will play at non-conference Pine Forest High School (7-6) on Wednesday and then host Southern Lee High School (5-6, 0-5 SAC) on Thursday. Both of these teams have already beaten the Lady Raiders this season. Every major game will start at 6 p.m.
The same time and place will be used for the JV Lady Raider volleyball team (5-6, 2-3 SAC). They will begin at 5 p.m.
Cross country teams on the road at Lee County
Tuesday at Lee County High School will be the fourth SAC cross country meet of the season.
Richmond’s boys’ and girls’ teams will play Lee County and Pinecrest High School, which is coming from another state. The first race starts at 5 p.m., and the second race starts at 5:30 p.m.
Girls’ tennis hosts two SAC matches
The Lady Raider tennis team (2-3, 2-3 SAC) will have two home SAC matches for the second week in a row.
Pinecrest will go first on Tuesday, and Hoke County will follow on Thursday. Richmond and those two teams have split their last two games against each other this season.
The singles matches will begin at 4 p.m., and the doubles matches will follow right away.
Football teams kick off SAC slate with Southern Lee
After wins by both the varsity and junior varsity football teams last week, the Raider football program is ready to start SAC play.
Today, the varsity Raiders beat Myers Park 21–10. Now, head coach Brad Denson and his team will start their quest to win their first SAC title since the 2021 season.

The JV Raiders (3-1) and their coach Patrick Hope have won three straight games. It will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. when they play the JV Cavaliers.
