There are new limit amounts that SNAP benefits can be paid out by the US Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). In October of this year, the highest amount of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments that claimants can get will go up in 49 states and U.S. territories, but it will go down in one state.
The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) won’t be changed again until the 2026 fiscal year. For the rest of the 2025 fiscal year, the new highest rates will be used.
People living in low-income families in all 50 US states, Washington, D.C., and US territories can get SNAP benefits every month. Electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards that can be cashed at participating stores are used to make these payments every month.
The FNS has stated that changes will happen on October 1, which means that people who get benefits won’t see an increase for a few months. The Food Action and Research Center says that about 36% of households that get SNAP benefits get the highest amount of food they are allowed.
States across the country that will see SNAP benefits increase
Millions of people get SNAP benefits every month. These are meant to help them spend more on healthy, nutrient-dense food and improve their overall health. In the United States, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) lets families make between $296 and $1,751 per month.
People in the US should know that how much SNAP money a family gets depends on how much money they make and how they spend it. The most current statistics from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that 41.9 million Americans, or about 12.5% of the total population, received SNAP benefits in November 2022.
But these payment amounts can change sometimes because of a government raise or a change in the cost of living. Starting in October, the most a single person living alone in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. can get will go up by $1, from $291 to $292 per month.
Also, the monthly payment for a family of four will go up by two dollars, from $973 to $975. It is important to know that the amount of SNAP benefits a person in Alaska gets is a little different from the amounts they get in other parts of the US.

Hawaii
The most a Hawaii resident with one home can get from SNAP benefits will go down from $527 to $517. Income for four-person families will also drop by $36 a month, from $1,759 to $1,723.
Guam
A single candidate in Guam can currently get up to $430, but later this year, they will get $431. The most an average family of four can get will go up from $1,434 to $1,437.
U.S. Virgin Islands
Starting in October, families with one person in the US Virgin Islands can get up to $376 in benefits. This is a little more than the $375 benefit for the fiscal year 2023–2024. The most that can be given to a family of four will go up by three dollars, from $1,251 to $1,254.
To find out if they are eligible for SNAP benefits, people must apply in their home state and meet certain requirements, such as limits on their resources and income, as explained on the USDA website.
SNAP benefits are managed at the state and local levels, so rules may be different from one state to the next. The federal government provides the money, though.
