RALEIGH, North Carolina – Feeding the Carolinas (FTC) has been given a $250,000 grant by the SECU Foundation to help the organization get ready for disasters in North Carolina. The money will help the group get food and other important supplies to people and towns that have been affected by disasters more quickly.

Through a network of seven food banks, Feeding the Carolinas helps all 100 counties in North Carolina. It also works with groups like Baptists on Mission and The Salvation Army to organize workers and relief efforts.

Since 2015, SECU Foundation has been a strong supporter of Feeding the Carolinas and its predecessor, the North Carolina Association of Feeding America Food Banks. Since then, the Foundation has given $2.5 million in grants to help with the reaction to hurricanes Matthew, Florence, and COVID-19.

Mona Moon, a board member of the SECU Foundation, said, “Through our Foundation’s Disaster Response program, we have the chance to help make plans before a disaster strikes.”

“Allowing immediate relief is key to helping those in need, and we urge other community leaders to support important groups that we have come to rely on during natural disasters.”

“From helping to buy food to giving a gift that changed the game at the start of the pandemic, SECU Foundation has worked with FTC many times to feed people in need,” said Mike Darrow, Executive Director of Feeding the Carolinas.

“With the grant from the Foundation, FTC can respond quickly to crises in the community that affect our food pantries.” We know that SECU Foundation will always be there to help us feed our friends and neighbors.
