The Almanac says that temperatures will be below normal in Western North Carolina and across the whole state. For example, Accuweather’s September prediction for the Asheville area said that high temperatures would start in the mid-80s and drop to as low as the low 70s by the end of the month.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac uses a “secret formula” to tell you what the weather will be like. It says on its website that it makes its predictions by combining past weather patterns with present solar activity. It also says that it makes long-term predictions using three fields:

- Climatology, the study of prevailing weather patterns.
- Meteorology, the study of the atmosphere.
