The Coming Week Fall sports teams want to get back into the win column

ROCKINGHAM — Over the next few days, a number of Richmond Senior High School’s fall sports teams will try to get back to winning ways.

On Monday, the fifth week of the season begins. This will be the first time all of Richmond’s teams have played this school year.

Girls’ golf opens season Monday

The Richmond girls’ golf team and head coach Keith Parsons will be the last sports team to officially start the fall season.

This season, there are five players on the Lady Raiders team. Their nine-hole match starts Monday at Scotch Meadows Country Club in Laurinburg. At 3 p.m., Richmond will play other teams from the Sandhills Athletic Conference.

Later today, the Richmond Observer will have a taste of the season.

Boys’ soccer begins conference slate

The Richmond boys’ soccer team had a tough non-conference schedule to start the season. This week, they will play their first two SAC games and try to end a six-game losing run.

The Raiders (1-6) and their coach, Chris Larsen, will go on two trips. The game on Monday will be at Southern Lee High School (7-1), and the game on Wednesday will be at Pinecrest High School (4-2). The first game of each will begin at 7 p.m.

The JV Raiders (2-4-1) will play at Southern Lee and Pinecrest both days at 5 p.m. as part of junior varsity play.

Volleyball has two chances to end skid

Ashleigh Larsen, the head coach of the Richmond volleyball team, will try to get their team back on track with a pair of road games. The team has lost three straight games.

The Lady Raiders (5-5, 1-3 SAC) will go to Lee County High School (5-2, 1-2 SAC) on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they will go on the road again to play Uwharrie Charter Academy (13-2), which is not in the same league. The first game of each will begin at 6 p.m.

There are also games away for the JV Lady Raiders (5-4, 2-2 SAC). They will play Lee County and Uwharrie Charter. The times for those games are 5 p.m.

Girls’ tennis returns after hiatus

The Lady Raider tennis team hasn’t played in almost two weeks because games had to be moved around. This week, they will play their SAC schedule again.

Tuesday is the last game of the first round of conference play for Richmond (1-2, 1-2 SAC). They will host Scotland High School. Before, the team lost to Southern Lee. On Thursday, they will try to make up for it by going on the road.

At 4 p.m., the singles matches will begin, and then the doubles matches will begin.

Cross country teams set for third meet

This week, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams from Richmond will race away from home. Last week, they ran on their own track.

Richmond, Pinecrest, Union Pines, and host Scotland will all be in the SAC meet on Tuesday. The girls’ race will begin at 5:30 p.m., after the boys’ race at 5 p.m.

Football eyes .500 non-conference record

The Richmond college football team has a 1-2 record going into week four of the season. In their last non-conference game, they will try to even things out.

Myers Park High School (1-2) will come to Raiders Field on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to play. Tickets cost $10 and can be bought at the game or at GoFan.co.

This week, the JV Raiders (2-1) will go back on the road to Myers Park to try to get their third straight win. The game on Thursday will start at 6 p.m.

Later this week, the Richmond Observer will print a preview story for the varsity team.
